Test Generation Based on Symbolic Specifications
نویسندگان
چکیده
Classical state-oriented testing approaches are based on simple machine models such as Labelled Transition Systems (LTSs), in which data is represented by concrete values. To implement these theories, data types which have infinite universes have to be cut down to finite variants, which are subsequently enumerated to fit in the model. This leads to an explosion of the state space. Moreover, exploiting the syntactical and/or semantical information of the involved data types is non-trivial after enumeration. To overcome these problems, we lift the family of testing relations iocoF to the level of Symbolic Transition Systems (STSs). We present an algorithm based on STSs, which generates and executes tests on-the-fly on a given system. It is sound and complete for the iocoF testing relations.

Test Data Generation for Programs with Quantified First-Order Logic Specifications
We present a novel algorithm for test data generation that is based on techniques used in formal software verification. Prominent examples of such formal techniques are symbolic execution, theorem proving, satisfiability solving, and usage of specifications and program annotations such as loop invariants. These techniques are suitable for testing of small programs, such as, e.g., implementation...
متن کاملSymbolic Test-generation in HOL-TESTGEN/CirTA A Case Study
HOL-TestGen/CirTA is a theorem-prover based test generation environment for specifications written in Circus, a process-algebraic specification language in the tradition of CSP. HOL-TestGen/CirTA is based on a formal embedding of its semantics in Isabelle/HOL, allowing to derive rules over specification constructs in a logically safe way. Beyond the derivation of algebraic laws and calculi for ...
متن کاملA Specification-Based Test Case Generation Method for UML/OCL
Automated test data generation is an important method for the verification and validation of UML/OCL specifications. In this paper, we present an extension of DNF-based test case generation methods to class models and recursive query operations on them. A key feature of our approach is an implicit representation of object graphs avoiding a representation based on object-id’s; thus, our approach...
متن کاملCounterexample generation for higher-order logic using functional and logic programming
This thesis presents a counterexample generator for the interactive theorem prover Isabelle/HOL that uncovers faulty specifications and invalid conjectures using various testing methods. The primary contributions are two novel testing strategies: exhaustive testing with concrete values; and symbolic testing, evaluating conjectures with a narrowing strategy. Orthogonally to the strategies, this ...
متن کاملVerifying the Specification-to-Code Correspondence for Abstract Data Types
Formal specification has become an important issue in the development of safety critical software. Automatic code generation from specifications in general leads to inefficient implementations. Instead, we present a verification method that allows verifying an implementation against a given specification, using specification generation from program source code. Generated specifications can be c...
متن کاملContract-based Verification and Test Case Generation for Open Systems
Current practices in software development heavily emphasize the development of reusable and modular software, which allow software components to be developed and maintained independently. While a component-oriented approach offers a number of benefits, it presents several quality assurance challenges including validating the correctness of individual components as well as their integration. Des...
